Tidbits from Patti . . .
My yarn and fiber obsession began as a 9 year old and in trouble. As punishment, I was made to sit on a porch and told to "stay". The woman who's porch I was on put 2 short blue metal needles and a ball of pink yarn in my hands and taught me how to knit and purl. Then she showed me how to put the stitches together for a pair of slippers. For a long time that was all I could knit, and everyone I knew had slippers with pom-poms on the top.
When I was in High School, I found another knitter who taught me how to read a pattern, make a cable, and my first sweater was born. That was many years ago, and I still have that sweater. It is a bright yellow wool raglan sleeve number with 2 cables down the front. I had not yet learned about gauges, so the front was about 3 inches smaller than the back, but I wore it for a long time. It experienced many camp fires and many hikes. Since then, I have professionally learned to crochet, spin, dye, weave, and I love it all.
My favorite items to knit are sweaters, vests and socks. I do some felting, but my preference is smaller needles, so I tend to reserve felting projects for gifts. For myself, I do have a few purses, and clogs which I just love to wear - they are very warm (using Sweet Grass 2 ply of course - it makes a great felted fabric).
I also have a small dye shop called Wolf Creek Wools, where I hand paint and dye yarns and spinning fibers. I dye of most of the colorways
myself, the others are dyed by Mountain Colors.
You can find my booth at NWRSA, the Black Sheep Gathering, and Oregon Flock and Fiber. I also do some of the fiber fairs around Montana, and for the first time I will be at Stitches West in February 2008. If you attend any of these events, please stop by and say Hello.
